Your documents
WordPad.me opens, edits and saves documents entirely in your browser. The content of your documents is not uploaded to our servers or to anyone else, and we cannot see it.
What is stored on your device
- The draft of the document you are editing, its name and format, in IndexedDB, a database your browser keeps for wordpad.me. It stays until you start a new document or clear the site’s data. Safari may delete it after about a week without a visit, so save files you want to keep.
- Interface settings: the look (Classic or Standard), light or dark interface, zoom, ruler and ribbon state, in the browser’s local storage under the keys
wm-theme,wm-scheme,wm-zoom,wm-rulerandwm-ribbon. - The editor’s own files (its pages, scripts, styles, fonts and icons, never your documents), in the browser’s cache for this site, so the editor opens offline after the first visit.
File → New clears the draft. To remove everything, including the settings and the offline copy, clear the data of wordpad.me in your browser settings, or uninstall the app if you installed it.
Who is responsible
This site is run by the independent developer who runs WordPad.me, who decides how it handles personal data (its “controller”, in the words of the GDPR as it applies in the EU and the UK). Questions about this policy go to contact@wordpad.me.
What the server sees
The pages are delivered by Cloudflare, Inc. (San Francisco, USA), which processes the technical details of every request (such as your IP address, browser type and the address asked for) for us, under its own privacy policy, to deliver the pages and protect the service. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a working, secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR); transfers to the USA rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Cloudflare keeps these request logs for a short time for security and shows us only totals, never a log of your visits. We do not use cookies, advertising trackers or analytics that identify you.
If you write to contact@wordpad.me, we use your message and address only to reply, and keep them until the exchange is over.
Your rights
You may ask what we hold about you (in practice, only email you sent us), have it corrected or erased, object to its use, or complain to the data protection authority where you live. Write to contact@wordpad.me.
Changes
If this policy changes (for example, if privacy-friendly analytics or advertising are added), this page will say so with a new date.
